FORT MUSEUM HERITAGE

Traces the history of ethnic Chinese imprinted on the western outskirts of Jakarta. This is the Peranakan museum first and the only one in Indonesia.

 

 

This museum is the result of restoration of the ancient home of an ethnic Chinese who married local people, descendants of mixed marriages was then known as the Peranakan.

 

 

One of their descendants namely Udaya Halim or better known as Thin Lim Peng, decided to preserve the history and traditions of the Chinese. In 2009, he bought a house typical Peranakan large but quite worn out at that time. He then fix the house to be made into Fort Heritage Museum.

 

 

When the restoration of the building, Udaya Halim and her sisters reviewing a lot of ideas and knowledge so that it becomes a beautiful building, but maintained its original form. They did that for two years, and the museum was inaugurated on 11 November 2011.

 

 

All objects are located in Fort Heritage Museum was donated by the people of China Fortress, which is the name for the Chinese people who inhabit Tangerang from generation to generation. Also collected a variety of items such as pieces of centuries-old big ship belonging to Zheng He, the Chinese Muslim admiral who came to the archipelago. Some rare objects that are not less interesting is the mahjong table ivory, weighing opium, Qing dynasty costumes from the 19th century, the Peranakan drawn batik fabric with motifs typical of China, and do not miss the photos of Chinese people in the past.

 

 

In the other corner, you can see the wedding dress mix of Hokkien Chinese heritage result of the integration with the Betawi traditional clothing. The groom wore a black shirt with long pants and a conical hat, while the bride wore Kun Hwa with headdress and veil.

 

 

Udaya Halim has not only made this museum building to store old stuff, but also a forum to revive their unique cultural traditions. Therefore, the hall of Fort Heritage Museum is now often used for community meetings, weddings and fashion shows.
